Treasure hunting involves finding treasure maps and then locating the buried treasure. In order to see where the treasure is you will first need to decode the treasure map. To do that you need the cartography skill. Once you have sufficient skill to decode you'll need sufficient lockpicking skill and remove trap skill. There are several different levels of treasure maps.

{| class="wikitable" |+ Treasure Map Levels ! Level !! Name !! Lock Picking Skill |- | 1 || Stash || 5.0 |- | 2 || Supply || 45.0 |- | 3 || Cache || 75.0 |- | 4 || Horde || 80.0 |- | 5 || Trove || 80.0 |}

Each treasure map will have specific guardians that will spawn once the chest is fully out of the ground. These guardians will need to be defeated before you can do anything with the chest. The guardians that spawn will be from one of six different spawn groups. The spawn group that the guardians come from will be randomly generated when the treasure map is looted. The guardians will be harder scale in difficulty based on the level of chest. So you shouldn't find an ancient wyrm as a guardian for a level one chest.

{| class="wikitable" |+ Guardian Group 1 ! You do not need to stay near the treasure chest while attempting to disarm the trap. You do, however, need to stay in the vicinity of the treasure chest. While you are attempting to disarm the trap you be faced with several outcomes. The first being nothing happens and you successfully disarm the trap. The second, is that you fail to disarm the trap and take damage from the trap. The third is that an ancient chest guardian appears to defend the chest. This ancient chest guardian will be stronger than a normal chest guardian. It will also have no loot when it is killed. You must kill the ancient chest guardian before you can attempt to disarm the trap again. Once the trap has been disarmed you may now attempt to pick the lock of the chest. This process is as you would expect for picking locks. After the treasure chest has been unlocked, you'll now have access to its contents. Treasure chest loot is determined by what kind of treasure map you have. There are five different types of treasure map chests.

Types of Treasure Chests *Artisan *Assassin *Mage *Ranger *Warrior

In addition to the specific loot in the treasure map chest, you'll find gold, reagents, and gems. There are also special items that can only be found in treasure map chests. While pulling items out of the chest, ancient chest guardians can spawn to protect the loot. Again, you most kill the ancient chest guardian before you may continue looting the chest. You are done with the treasure map once you have looted everything you'd like from the treasure map chest. You should single-click the chest and destroy it. This will cause the treasure map chest and all its contents to be deleted.
